Shoegazer Sunday: Last Leaf Down’s “The Theme”

Sunday, November 16th, 2014

Here’s Last Leaf Down‘s “The Theme.” Nicely gothy and gloomy and echoey, and entirely appropriate for what’s turning out to be winter in November.

Shoegazer Sunday: Dean & Britta’s “Nightnurse”

Sunday, November 2nd, 2014

Not sure this is actually Shoegaze, but it’s by two former members of Luna. They sound like they were thawed out of the same 1960s time capsule as Austin Powers, sort of Nancy Sinatra dueting with Andy Williams on Quaaludes.

Sometimes that’s enough…

Halloween: Freaky Filipino Drag Queen Cover of “I Will Always Love You”

Monday, October 27th, 2014

It’s a good thing I already hate this song…

Shoegazer Sunday: Starfire Connective Sound’s “To Dream You Are Floating Drunk Among The Storm”

Sunday, October 26th, 2014

I think that Starfire Connective Sound is the shoegaze/post-rock embodiment of Brazilian musician Al Schenkel. “To Dream You Are Floating Drunk Among The Storm” has a percussive edge that’s a bit closer to the post-rock end of things.

Shoegazer Sunday: La Hell Gang’s “So High”

Sunday, October 19th, 2014

You don’t have to be a fan of drug-references to enjoy Chilian band La Hell Gang’s echoey, spaced-out “So High”.

They’re evidently on tour in the U.S. right now…

Shoegazer Sunday: The Stratford 4’s “Where The Ocean Meets The Eye”

Sunday, October 12th, 2014

For your Sunday dose of Shoegaze, here’s The Stratford 4’s “Where The Ocean Meets The Eye,” which sounds a bit like The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Shoegazer Sunday: Slowdive’s “Sleep”

Sunday, October 5th, 2014

What? Another obscure Slowdive song? Really, Lawrence? Really?

Yep.

Evidently this was originally an Eternal song, Eternal being the band Christian Savill was in before Slowidve.

Shoegazer Sunday: Explosions in the Sky’s “The Birth and Death of the Day” Live

Sunday, September 28th, 2014

How do you feel about six minutes of intermittently pleasant guitar noodling?

Tough.

They’re an awful lot like a strictly instrumental version of Midsummer.

8-Bit Version of Nine Inch Nail’s “Closer”

Wednesday, September 24th, 2014

Either you like this sort of thing or you don’t….

I think it gets better the deeper into the song you get.
