Shoegazer Sunday: The Black Ryder’s “Seventh Moon”

Sunday, April 30th, 2017

The breathy vocals of Aimee Nash, half of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Australia duo The Black Ryder, merit obvious comparison to Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval. Here they are with “Seventh Moon,” which reminds me a bit of SPC ECO’s “Tweet Fields at Night” and is about 97% pure beauty by weight.

Minor Victories’ “Folk Arp”

Sunday, April 16th, 2017

Here’s “Folk Arp,” another tune from Minor Victories:

The video is not particularly interesting. However, this cinéma vérité black and white piece following a trio of skateboarders at night is really nice.

Sunday, March 19th, 2017

The Shoegaze revival seems to be in full bloom, with classic Shoegaze band Ride coming out with a new album this summer. “Home is a Feeling” is an early track off it, and comes down firmly on the hazy/blissful side of Shoegaze.

Shoegazer Sunday: Minor Victories’ “Scattered Ashes (song for Richard)”

Sunday, March 12th, 2017

I was already inclined to like Minor Victories based on the presence of Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell. And then “Scattered Ashes (song for Richard)” is not only a swell song in its own right, but has video that punches all the Internet’s meme buttons at once.

Sunday Shoegazer: Center of the Sun’s “Cease”

Sunday, February 19th, 2017

We last featured Center of the Sun for their cover of Slowdive’s “Machine Gun”, but their only album, Machine Gun (which, ironically, doesn’t contain the Slowdive cover) is well worth picking up, and “Cease” is off that.
