By way of celebration, if you haven’t already seen it, here’s someone else’s Jack Vance collection. Remember to pick your jaw up off the floor before you leave.
And here’s some of Mike Berro’s extensive collection.

I can still recall the sense of wonder that ‘The Dragon Masters’ inspired when it first appeared as a short novel in Galaxy magazine, illustrated by Vaughn. Another favourite was an Ace paperback ‘Big Planet’. Just as Heinlein had the knack of making the future seem as real as daily life in the present (almost ‘taken for granted’), Vance had the other gift of rendering alienness in picaresque detail. I am cheered to see that he (like Fred Pohl and very few – any? – others) is stil active in his 90s.
Wow, I’m a little late, but I can only say I admire no speculative fiction writer more than Jack Vance. I met him twice for just a moment at signings, but I feel like I have spent many many hours in his company. Literally no one has quite his way with the language in the context of (a term he hates) “science fiction.”
